Compassion

14 January, 2021

Compassion is when people care for others. Being compassionate towards self and towards others can be an essential part of well-being.

Below are suggestions that might help build your compassion towards yourself and towards others.

1. The Compassionate Self. Imagine that you are a compassionate person. Think of the qualities that you would ideally have as a compassionate person and imagine yourself with each of these qualities.

2. Compassion Flowing into Oneself: Using Memory. Think of a time when someone was kind to you and recall how it felt to receive that kindness.

3. Focusing the Compassionate Self on Yourself. Imagine yourself directing your attention towards yourself with three basic thoughts:

-May you be well

-May you be happy

-May you be free of suffering

4. Focusing the Compassionate Self on Others. Think about someone that you care about and direct your attention towards them with three basic thoughts:

-May you be well

-May you be happy

-May you be free of suffering
